Dairy Energy Savings - CCA Fifth Year (01/10/04 -
30/09/05) Data Collection Spreadsheet
posted 24th October 2005
The Climate Change Agreement (CCA) fifth year period ends
on the 30th of September, as you will know we are required
to collate data from each site each year.
It is important to remember that the Department for Environment
Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) will not judge your performance
in this past year against your CCA targets. Defra only judge
the performance of each two year milestone on one 12 month
period with those two years.
Below are two attachments, a spreadsheet which is to be completed
and submitted to Dairy Energy Savings Limited (DES) by, at
the latest, Friday, 11th November. Also attached is a Word
document providing guidance for completion of the spreadsheet.
For information, the next target period, MS3 (the 12 months
performance that Defra judges against your target) starts
on 1st October 2005.
The data collected from the last 12 months enables both the
operator and the sector to take stock of the current performance
against future targets. It is therefore, advisable to enter
the milestone three target in the target box within the spreadsheet.

Second Target Period Sector Performance
Here is a summary of how the sector performed at the end
of the second target period (1 October 2003 to 30 September
2004).
The sector had a target from its base year of a 5.65% reduction
in kWh per tonne of production. The target to be achieved
was set at 484.52kWh/mt. This target was set after all entrants
and exits were taken into account since the end of the first
target period.
The unadjusted performance of the sector was 458.36kWh/mt.
This means that the sector more than met the target by an
additional 5.40% beyond the original percentage reduction
of 5.65%. Thus the sector is now 11.05% more efficient than
at the base year.
The unadjusted carbon dioxide surplus for the sector was
50,483.73mt.
If the sector kWh/mt performance was kept unchanged, it would
be meeting the revised fourth milestone target of 459.20kWh/mt
(period of 1 October 2007 to 30 September 2008).
A more comprehensive report will be posted in the next few
weeks.
